Mariano holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and serves as Principal Investigator in advanced therapies and Head of the Cell Therapy Unit at the Health Research Institute of Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital. His work focuses on the clinical translation of mesenchymal stem cells (pioneer in the isolation, characterization, culture, and use of ADSCs), the use of  cellular secretome and exosomes, and the development of liquid biopsy methods in digestive cancers. As a pioneer in regenerative medicine, he has contributed to major clinical trials, GMP‑compliant cell‑based products, and innovations like Darvastrocell (Alofisel). He also co‑directs the UAM–Peaches Chair of Advanced Therapies and teaches at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
