Juan-José studied Pharmacy and obtained his PhD at the University Complutense of Madrid. He has carried out basic research in leading international institutions including EMBL, HHMI, CNIO, the University of Cambridge, and KU Leuven. His scientific work has focused on identifying target cells and molecular biomarkers with potential applications in the diagnosis and treatment of several cancers, including liver, colon, and lung cancer. After transitioning from academia, Juan moved into patient advocacy, where he has contributed to more than 20 EU-funded research projects, ensuring that the patient voice is represented in the development of cutting‑edge research and innovation.
